As an endodontic patient, what should I expect?

Prior to any treatment in our office, you will receive a thorough endodontic examination. In this exam, we determine the extent of the pulpal injury and make sure that the tooth is a good candidate for endodontic therapy. Rest assured that no treatment is begun until all of your questions about your options and possible results are answered and you have given consent for treatment.

Treatment begins by thorough and complete anesthesia of the tooth and surrounding tissues. Usually this is by injection, similar to what you may have received for a filling.  Sedation options are available for those that request it. Once the tooth and surrounding tissues are completely anesthetized, the injured pulp is painlessly removed. Then the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned, shaped, disinfected, and sealed. The procedure typically takes one or two appointments.
